Songs inside of sonic beds, tuck the songs in to their beds. I was learning everything in my mid 20’s. I knew about Karen Dalton by this time but Judee Sill was still a few years away. I knew about that rambling enigma Michael Hurley and had a cassette of Armchair Boogie. Then he ended up living in the back room of what had been Alleged Gallery, under the loft bed where Tom and Jesse slept. So he was part of the Fish and Pony parade too for a few months. Of course Tom and Michael and I have slipped in and out of each other’s lives since this time, but I forgot now long it had been until I heard this answering machine message.

Samara and I lived off the same street called Stanton. We got together at least once a week to play music or make fish. Samara is another lifelong New Yorker that has the best laugh.
